The Antler King Radish is a cold-tolerant brassica that’s easy to grow and fast-growing. It serves as a fantastic food source for whitetail deer in both warm and cold seasons. The greens are packed with 20-30% protein and essential vitamins, producing plenty of tonnage. The long white taproot can grow up to 24-30″ and delivers energy-rich nutrients while naturally tilling deeply compacted soils. Radishes thrive in a wide variety of soil types and environments, making them a popular choice across the U.S.
Plant radishes in the Spring once soil temperatures exceed 50°F, or in late Summer between July and October. In the Southern US, they make an excellent Fall and Winter food source. In the North, Northeast, and Midwest, they provide nutrition through Summer, Fall, and Winter. A hard frost triggers a molecular change that boosts sugar content in the leaves and taproot, which drives up deer activity and consumption. Radishes prefer a soil pH of 5.5-7.0 and grow well in dry, sandy, and rocky conditions. Plant them alone or mix them with grains or other brassicas for best results.
